Why? For staying motivated.
After reviewing my new habit targets, which continue to elude me, I coincidentally pulled up a photo of my 5 year old son, sitting in his Mom's lap while they read the Mother's Day card he made for her. I went back to my habits and thought: "for them." Difficult to convey the emotion that thought contains, which I share only to say that I am very motivated, determined to follow through today. And then I thought that it would be helpful to have space to write and clearly see the answer to the Why? question. And, actually, to post a photo. I have a collection of habits that are all about getting to a better place, overall, at home. If I had a motivational statement at the very top, where I could then scroll down to see my habits, I think that would be really helpful. And the ability to pull up a photo, would be even better.

I get around this by writing much longer habit titles, such as "Clean teeth to avoid toothache" and "Get a sense of perspective, mediate".
It's more a workaround than the idea you are proposing. I too wish I could be reminded of the motivation behind a particular good / bad habit.

Many of the life coach gurus preach that we should be able to visualise our goals - the beach house, the ripped abs, the pilot's licence etc. So I agree that the ability to post multiple images, links and notes would be essential, not just for a 'Why' section, but also somewhere we can record very specifically 'What' our goals are.

This would be great. Actually I thought the app would have that feature, which is why I opted for it initially. Having a reason and a purpose for achieving goals or making habits is probably the biggest motivator. Being able to see the REASON clearly with each goal will make a huge difference. Conversely, I think that losing sight of the reason why we are working towards a goal is the quickest way to lose motivation and ultimately give up.

"Start with why". Emotion is what drives us. Whether it is to exercise to fit into a certain outfit or to be healthy for a loved one...to save money for a car or a house, that image is going to be an instant motivator, communicating all the emotions and reasons at a glance.
