Stop asking free users to upgrade every day
In the last week or so, the app has started pestering me almost every day to upgrade. I understand the desire to create more paying customers, but the constant full-screen prompts make the free tier almost unusable. I have been a premium subscriber for periods in the past, but at the moment I'm considering switching to a different app that doesn't do this. Can the prompts be less often, even if it's once per week or month?
Hi, this is Kyle, the CEO of Strides. Just wanted to reply to thank you for taking the time. I really appreciate it. I read every bit of feedback and take it all to heart to make Strides better.
We are a very small, self-funded company building an ad-free service that keeps your data private. It's only possible to continue running this business if people upgrade for premium features.
We weren't showing our premium plan nearly often enough and it was hurting the business for years. Many popular, highly-rated apps, some of which have been selected as Editor's Choice and even won Apple Design Awards, show their paywall right when the app is launched. That's what experts recommend, but I felt that would be too distracting in Strides.
So, I decided to try showing the upgrade view once after every single tracker has been logged for the day, so there's nothing it's distracting from.
We all watch ads throughout shows and before videos. What if there was just one at the end of the day, after an app has helped you build good habits and make progress on your goals, and the only "ad" it ever showed was to upgrade to get even more value out of that service (which also prevents it from showing again)? Oh, and you if you choose not to upgrade you can close it instantly, no need to wait several seconds before you can skip it. I wish every free service I use would do that! 😀
This is the first complaint I've seen about it, so I'll keep a close eye on it.
Thanks again for your feedback!
Kyle
